LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — The man who was found not guilty by reason of insanity in connection with the death of 6-year-old Logan Tipton in his Versailles home is back in Kentucky custody.

Ronald Exantus was released in October under mandatory re-entry supervision, even though the parole board recommended he serve his full 20-year sentence.

He was arrested in Ocala, Florida, after failing to register as a convicted felon and moving into a home less than 100 yards from a school.

Florida’s attorney general spoke out on Tuesday, calling the case an example of why the insanity defense needs to be re-examined.

LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

“I believe the insanity defense is often abused. That allows people to evade accountability and get out early, and it impedes the work of prosecutors who stick their necks out and who go face-to-face with dangerous criminals every day in the courtroom,” Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said.
