Citing arrest documents, USA TODAY reported that 48-year-old Mauricio Jimenez was arrested earlier this week on organized fraud and first-degree grand theft felony charges after investigators said he approved steep markdowns on thousands of transactions, allowing select customers to purchase merchandise at significantly reduced prices.

The media outlet said authorities Jimenez was involved in at least 4,500 transactions totaling roughly $55 million in merchandise during a two-year period. The excessive discounts resulted in losses of about $4.3 million for the company, per the outlet.

“It was initially observed that he had several highly excessive markdowns conducted to repeated customers,” the outlet noted, citing the arrest affidavit.

According to USA TODAY, the activity raised red flags through internal monitoring systems that detected unusually high-value markdowns tied to the manager’s account. Investigators said Jimenez had the authority to approve price reductions, which he allegedly used, the outlet reported.

Jimenez was arrested in Miami-Dade County and reportedly released on bond.
