The Jacksonville State Gamecocks (4-3, 3-0 Conference USA) and the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (1-6, 0-3) meet Wednesday at Johnny “Red” Floyd Stadium in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NCAA football odds around the Jacksonville State vs. Middle Tennessee odds and make our expert college football picks and predictions for the best bets.

Middle Tennessee leads the all-time series 17-4-2, but Jacksonville State has won the past 3 meetings. Last season, Jax State won 42-20 at home as a 20.5-point favorite as the Under (64) just came in.

Jacksonville State QB Caden Creel (arm) is listed as questionable for Wednesday’s game. He has completed 67.2% of his pass attempts for 386 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs. Former Rutgers and Kentucky QB Gavin Wimsatt would start again if Creel cannot go. Wimsatt is much left efficient, hitting 56.1% of his passes for 593 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs. Creel has rushed for 438 yards with 3 TDs and 6.3 yards per carry (YPC), while Wimsatt has run for 236 yards, 4 TDs and 4.8 YPC.

Middle Tennessee lost 31-28 at the Delaware Blue Hens last time out on Wednesday, but it covered as a 9-point underdog as the Over (55) cashed. QB Nicholas Vattiato threw for 281 yards and 3 TDs in a strong effort against Delaware. The Blue Raiders have lost 4 in a row, but the past 3 setbacks are in 1-score games, losing by an average of 4.3 points per game (PPG). MTSU’s lone win was a 14-13 road win over the Wolf Pack in Nevada as a 9-point ‘dog, but it also has a 34-14 loss at home to the FCS Austin Peay Governors.

Jacksonville State 34, Middle Tennessee 17

Jacksonville State (-210) will cost you more than 2 times your potential return, and that’s a little too expensive for a singular moneyline bet, even with boost or promo. If you were to use Jax State in a multi-leg parlay, that would be perfectly OK.

PASS, and look to the spread instead.

JACKSONVILLE STATE -5.5 (-110) might be the best play on the board.

Whether it is Creel or Wimsatt under center, it shouldn’t much matter. Either signal caller is capable of getting the job done. While this Middle Tennessee team side hasn’t tossed in the towel and it continues to compete, the offense for the Blue Raiders is quite terrible, though. Middle Tennessee has had tremendous difficult running the ball this season, and it isn’t very good in the red zone. Defensively, it is so-so. Look for the Gamecocks, unbeaten to date in league play, to pull away in the second half.

UNDER 54.5 (-110) is the lean, but roll with a half-unit play at best.

The Under is a good play because of Middle’s ineptitude on offense. The Under is 2-1 in 3 games at home for the Blue Raiders, too.

Be careful, though. The Gamecocks have cashed high in 3 straight games, and 5 of the past 6 outings. Jacksonville State’s strength is running the ball, and that keeps the clock moving, too.
