Whether you are catching a pre‑dawn departure, hustling through a tight connection, or trying to keep kids happy at the gate, the quality of airport coffee can shape your whole trip. A new national ranking of airport coffee puts one major Florida airport near the top in the U.S. for a good cup of Joe.

Don’t get too excited. Another major Florida airport is at the bottom of the list.

Miami International Airport (MIA) ranked fourth in the country for coffee quality, based on an analysis of more than 470 coffee shops and cafés inside 50 of the largest U.S. airports. UpgradedPoints.com looked at Google reviews for quality and compared the number of coffee locations each airport offers, both per 10,000 passengers and per square mile, to judge passenger convenience.

Toward the bottom? Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL).

None of the airports scored five out of five for coffee quality, according to reviews, but William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) in Houston, Texas, took the top spot with 4.1.

Miami International a good place for a coffee break

Miami International Airport was fourth in the country for coffee quality, with an average rating of 3.56 out of 5 across its qualifying coffee spots.

“Among the top 5 airports, it offers the largest coffee footprint with 12 qualifying coffee spots, giving travelers more options without sacrificing quality,” UpgradePoints said. That means Florida travelers in Miami can find a better‑than‑average airport coffee without hunting too far from their gate.

The national average for coffee quality was 2.94 out of 5, the report said.

Of the five Florida airports ranked, only Tampa International Airport rated more than 3 out of 5 for coffee quality.

Fort Lauderdale International: Lots of coffee, low marks

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International ranks fourth in the country for the number of coffee shops per square mile, which suggests that your options are close together and easy to find. But the average rating for its coffee places was just 2.23 out of 5, suggesting that quantity was winning out over quality, the report said.

This was a common observation. LaGuardia, Chicago Midway, and Fort Lauderdale all ranked among the most coffee‑dense airports in terms of shops per square mile, yet each also appears in the bottom five for overall ratings.
