BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College softball team delivered a dominant performance Saturday, sweeping St. Petersburg College in a doubleheader at Titan Softball Complex.
In Brevard County, the Titans improved to 37-13 overall and 23-11 in the Citrus Conference with decisive 8-0 and 8-1 victories.
In Game 1, Eastern Florida relied on a strong outing from Zoey Mills, who allowed just six hits over six shutout innings while striking out five.
The Titans’ offense got going early, with Avery Velazquez driving in the first run, followed by Jaelynne Whipple’s NJCAA-leading 11th triple to extend the lead.
The Titans continued to build momentum with key hits from Annalyn Duncan, Madison Velazquez, and Emma George, taking control of the game.
Avery Velazquez finished a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Madison Velazquez and George each added two hits.
Game 2 saw the Titans stay hot at the plate, scoring eight runs on 14 hits.
Aracelis Jimenez, Whipple, and Madison Velazquez each recorded three hits in the win.
The Titans broke open a close game in the third inning, stringing together multiple RBI hits to extend their lead.
Pitcher Isabella Rosales went the distance, allowing just two hits and one unearned run over seven innings while striking out three to secure the victory.
St. Petersburg scored its only run of the day in the fifth inning of Game 2, but Eastern Florida responded with additional runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
The 11th-ranked Titans will return to action Tuesday afternoon in Brevard County, hosting a key Citrus Conference doubleheader against Miami Dade College.
First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Titan Softball Complex.
