Disney is installing a large wall around portions of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad that overlook the Cars and Villains Land construction areas at Magic Kingdom.
Aerial photos from @bioreconstruct on X show heavy-duty columns being installed to support the wall. The substantial support structure indicates this barrier is designed to last for several years.
The wall will need to withstand severe weather conditions including hurricane-force winds. While the walls are not intended to be permanent, they will remain in place for the duration of the Cars and Villains Land construction projects – likely several years.
Blocking Construction Views
The wall installation will eliminate views of the Cars and Villains Land construction areas from Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Guests riding the attraction will not be able to see ongoing work in these areas.
The placement targets specific sections of the Big Thunder Mountain track that have sightlines into the construction zones.
Big Thunder Reopening
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopens at Magic Kingdom on May 3, 2026 following an extensive refurbishment. The attraction features new track, new trains, refreshed animatronics, a new Rainbow Caverns scene, and a lowered height requirement of 38 inches.
The construction wall installation appears to be timed to coincide with the attraction’s reopening, ensuring views of the Cars and Villains Land work areas are blocked before guests return to the ride.
