St. Johns County marks completion of new County Road 2209 segment, expected to bring major relief for drivers

  • October 29, 2025

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A major road project, over a year in the making, was officially completed on Tuesday morning.

St. Johns County officials celebrated the opening of a new segment of County Road 2209, also known as the St. Johns Parkway, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The new four-lane divided road connects Silverleaf Parkway to International Golf Parkway — creating a smoother route through one of the county’s fastest-growing areas.

Jack Edgar, who relocated to the area five years ago, is thrilled about having to deal with less traffic.

“I feel so excited. I can’t wait. Coming down 16th Street from Silverleaf through Maribella, it’s terrible,” Edgar said.

It’s all part of a broader plan to improve traffic flow and connectivity in the growing region.

Another project nearby includes upgrades to State Road 16 and International Golf Parkway, with redesigned intersections and smart traffic signals that adjust based on real-time traffic volume.

County Commissioner Ann Taylor said improving traffic flow is crucial to the community.

“Hugely important, you know we’ve got kids crossing the street at Tocoi. We’re trying to make sure everyone is using the sidewalks and that they’re moving safely. So, this is really going to be an improvement,” Taylor said.

This new road isn’t the only change coming to this area. County leaders also said a new K-8 school will be built sometime in 2027.

“I think it’s going to be moving. I think it’s going to be moving a lot more efficiently than it has been,” Taylor said.
