PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — Turned in by her own grandmother after stealing a package filled with cat toys, a Port St. Lucie woman learned the hard way that porch piracy can end at home.
The Port St. Lucie Police Department said it arrested 21-year-old Destiny Vandiver on Monday after she was identified as the person who took an Amazon package from a neighborhood porch. Officers say the case took an unexpected turn when a family member contacted police and reported Vandiver as the suspect.

According to the PSLPD, the stolen package did not contain electronics or valuables — only cat toys. Police joked in a social media post that there were “no glitter bombs, no exploding paint — just a very disappointed thief and some very excited neighborhood cats.”

Investigators said Vandiver was taken into custody without incident, and the stolen items were recovered. Details on the charge were not immediately released.
Authorities praised the family member who came forward, noting that cooperation from the public plays a vital role in solving theft cases.
Police also used the incident to remind residents that stealing packages from porches remains a crime, regardless of the item’s value.
“Don’t take what’s not yours,” the department wrote, warning that even small thefts can lead to serious consequences.
