Carl Palmer

CLEARWATER — Carl Palmer will bring “Welcome Back My Friends: An Evening with Emerson, Lake & Palmer” to the Tampa Bay area for a performance on Saturday, Nov. 8, 8 p.m., at Ruth Eckerd Hall, 1111 McMullen Booth Road, Clearwater.

Tickets start at $35. Call 727-791-7400 or visit www.rutheckerdhall.com.

Created by Carl Palmer and his management, “An Evening With Emerson, Lake & Palmer” will be presented with the full cooperation of the estates of Keith Emerson and Greg Lake. Through modern technology they will reunite the band: Palmer with his two bandmates, playing together along with Emerson and Lake, who both passed away in 2016. The show combines video performance of Emerson and Lake from a legendary sold-out Royal Albert Hall ELP show from 1992 with live on-stage performances of Palmer with his own ELP Legacy band. The ELP Legacy band features Palmer along with Paul Bielatowicz and Simon Fitzpatrick.

All the musicians play together in sync to present a complete and authentic Emerson, Lake & Palmer show.

Emerson, Lake & Palmer was an English progressive rock supergroup formed in London in 1970. The band consisted of Keith Emerson of the Nice on keyboards; Greg Lake of King Crimson on vocals, bass, guitar, and producer; and Carl Palmer of Atomic Rooster on drums and percussion. With nine RIAA-certified gold albums in the United States and an estimated 48 million records sold worldwide, they are one of the most popular and commercially successful progressive rock groups of the 1970s, with a musical sound including adaptations of classical music with jazz and symphonic rock elements, dominated by Emerson’s flamboyant use of the Hammond organ, Moog synthesizer and piano. Lake also wrote several acoustic songs for the group.

The band become prominent after performing at the Isle of Wight Festival in August 1970. In their first year, the group signed with E.G. Records, who distributed the band’s records through Island Records in the United Kingdom and Atlantic Records in North America. Their discography includes “Emerson, Lake & Palmer” (1970) and “Tarkus” (1971), “Pictures at an Exhibition” (1971), “Trilogy” (1972), “Brain Salad Surgery” (1973), “Works Volume I” (1977), “Works Volume II” (1977), and “Love Beach” (1978). The group disbanded in 1979.

“We don’t see it as our task to modify or update these classic tunes that Heart fans love and have listened to all these years,” Fossen said in a press release.

To date, Heart has sold over 35 million records worldwide, including over 22.5 million in album sales in the U.S. They have had top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2010s. The group was ranked No. 57 on VH1’s 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock.

The Wallflowers

CLEARWATER — The Wallflowers will perform on Saturday, Nov. 8, 8 p.m., at the Bilheimer Capitol Theatre, 405 Cleveland St., Clearwater.

For the past 30 years, this Jakob Dylan-led act has stood as one of rock’s most dynamic and purposeful bands — a unit dedicated to and continually honing a sound that meshes timeless songwriting and storytelling with a hard-hitting and decidedly modern musical attack. That signature style has been present through the decades, baked into the grooves of smash hits like 1996’s “Bringing Down the Horse” as well as more recent and exploratory fare like 2012’s “Glad All Over.”

Even so, in recent years, Dylan — the Wallflowers’ founding singer, songwriter and guitarist — has repeatedly stepped outside of his band, first with a pair of more acoustic and rootsy records, 2008’s “Seeing Things” and 2010’s “Women + Country,” and then with the 2018 film “Echo in the Canyon” and the accompanying soundtrack, which saw him collaborate with a host of artists classic and contemporary, from Neil Young and Eric Clapton to Beck and Fiona Apple.

It had been nine long years since fans had heard from the group with whom he first made his mark. Dylan always knew they’d return.

“The Wallflowers is much of my life’s work,” he said. “It’s pretty hard to get a good band name, so if you have one, keep it.”

In 2021, the Wallflowers released “Exit Wounds,” their first new studio effort since 2012’s “Glad All Over.” While the wait was long, the much-anticipated record finds the band’s signature sound — lean, potent and eminently entrancing — intact, even as Dylan surrounds himself with a fresh cast of musicians.

Dylan’s vision has always been the core of the Wallflower’s music. How he chooses to express that vision, however, is what makes a song a Wallflowers song.

“I usually just let the songs tell me what kind of arrangements they need,” he said. “And if they’re asking for full-band electric arrangements, then that’s what the Wallflowers provide. And I knew I wanted to make a full-band electric record this time out.”

Thomas Dolby

CLEARWATER — Thomas Dolby is on the road for “The Iconic 80s: My Personal Recollections Tour,” which will include a show on Sunday, Nov. 9, 8 p.m., at the Bilheimer Capitol Theatre, 405 Cleveland St., Clearwater.

Tickets start at $44.50. Visit www.rutheckerdhall.com or call 727-791-7400.

Dolby has always blurred the lines between composition and invention. Thomas Morgan Robertson was born in 1958. Best known by the stage name Thomas Dolby, he is an English musician, producer, composer, entrepreneur and teacher. Dolby came to prominence in the 1980s, releasing hit singles including “She Blinded Me with Science” in 1982 and “Hyperactive!” in 1984. He has also worked as a producer and as a session musician.

Dolby is associated with the new wave movement of the early 1980s, a form of pop music incorporating electronic instruments, but Dolby’s work covers a wide range of musical styles and moods distinct from the high-energy pop sound of his few, better-known commercial successes.

In the 1990s, Dolby founded Beatnik, a Silicon Valley software company which developed the polyphonic ringtone software and created the Nokia tune. Its technology was used in more than half a billion cell phones. He was also the music director for TED Conferences. On the faculty at the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University since 2014, Dolby leads Peabody’s Music for New Media program, which enrolled its first students in the fall of 2018.

Dolby has received four Grammy nominations, two each in 1984 and 1988.

A Tale of Two

CLEARWATER — A Tale of Two will perform on Saturday, Nov. 8, 7 p.m., at the Music4Life Living Arts Center, 1204 Rogers St., Clearwater.

Visit wileyhouseconcerts.org.

Combining the best of Americana and blues melodies with timeless Southern storytelling, award winning vocalist Stephanie Adlington and guitarist Aaron Lessard draw influence from the likes of Tom Waits and Ray LaMontagne, along with bedrock artists such as Patsy Cline and Hank Williams Sr. A Tale of Two has opened for notable artists such as Mary Gauthier, Grayson Capps, and Peter Mulvey. Not unlike the artists who inspired them, the duo’s songs frequently dabble in stories of revenge, drinking and feature sinners of all stripes and persuasions.

Oozing an infectious stage presence and chemistry that carries over from the music to the back and forth banter between songs, “A Tale of Two” offers a different kind of Americana — storytelling by a swampy pair of retro raconteurs spinning blues arias with soul, intrigue and power.

Along the way the boys picked up the insane and absurd keys player Christopher Cope and the heavy-footed drummer Adam Kampf before finally trying something a little sonically different with their neighbor, female vocalist Logan Rex.

After nearly a decade of playing together the boys sound tight and powerful, creating the perfect foundation for their jazz-influenced singer to dance around on lyrically and literally. What you hear is the sound of friendship, hard work, imagination and the hope to spread their message of love and the importance of having a good time.

Balu Brigada are a groove-pop duo from New Zealand made up of multi-instrumentalist, dual-vocalists and writer/producer brothers, Henry and Pierre Beasley. With a pop sensibility that sits a little left of center, their tracks prioritize prominent bass-hooks and punchy drums with natural quirk and relatability, drawing inspiration from a wide range of influences including indie pop and alt-rock.

Key to Balu Brigada’s magic is their inimitable brotherly bond, with their joy for — and gentle ribbing of — each other coming through in everything they do. Their musical conversation mirrors their real-life communication as songwriters and co-producers, finishing each other’s sentences both in everyday discourse and in song. The Beasleys have spent much of the past few years creating a unique future-facing sound of their own.

The years they spent fine tuning their skills paid off in 2022 as they got the attention of Atlantic Records/Warner Music Australia and signed their first major label deal. They released their debut EP “I Should Be Home” followed by EP “Find a Way” and recently released single “So Cold,” all of which cumulatively received acclaim from Rolling Stone, Coup De Main, People Magazine (Best New Artist), Ones to Watch and hailed by i-D as “an actual band of brothers making tunes stacked with hooks that’ll run circles around your brain for days.”

Bryan Adams with Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo

Bryan Adams has been touring the world for over four decades. His music has achieved No. 1 status in over 40 countries, and he is the recipient of numerous awards including a Grammy, American Music Awards along with three Academy Award and five Golden Globe nominations, 18 Juno Awards and he is a Companion of the Order of Canada.

In 2018 he co-wrote the Broadway musical “Pretty Woman: The Musical” and released his 16th studio album, “So Happy It Hurts” in 2022. He also followed Taylor Swift in re-recording some of his biggest songs with a double album of “Classics” in 2023.

In August 2024, Adams launched Bad Records, his own independent label to house his album catalog, and kicked it off with a limited edition 7-inch digital single and video of two songs — “Rock And Roll Hell” and “War Machine,” both songs he wrote for Kiss at the beginning of his songwriting career.

These releases were followed with two box sets, numerous singles and most recently a very special release for Record Store Day featuring previously unheard recordings of Tina Turner.

“I’m so thrilled to be announcing the North American leg of the ‘Roll With The Punches Tour,’” Adams said. “We’ll be playing all the classics, some deep cuts and sharing some brand-new tracks from the forthcoming album.”

In a pop culture world defined by its perpetual changes, the partnership of singer songwriter Pat Benatar and producer-musician Neil Giraldo has been a potent, steadfast union that has soared to the top of the charts and into fans’ hearts on their own terms. Her staggering vocals and take-no-prisoners attitude, along with his trailblazing artistry as a guitarist, producer and songwriter, forged the undeniable chemistry and unique sound that created eternal rock hits including “We Belong,” “Invincible,” “Love Is A Battlefield,” “Promises In The Dark,” “We Live For Love,” “Heartbreaker” and “Hell Is For Children.”

Their stunning achievements are a testament to their vision. Together, Benatar and Giraldo have created two multi-platinum, five platinum and three gold albums, as well as 19 Top 40 hits. They have also been feted with three American Music Awards, a People’s Choice Award, a 2008 induction into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame and in 2022 became Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees.
