ST. PETERSBURG — Registration is now underway for weekly summer art camps at the Morean Arts Center, 719 Central Ave., St. Petersburg.
The Morean invites students to explore immersive art projects and get inspired during summer camp. Weekly camps run June 1 through July 24, meeting from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Campers will discover awesome hands-on art activities in multiple mediums, all revolving around the themes of Past Classics, Present Favorites, and Future Fun art.
For generations, the Morean Arts Center’s summer art camp has been a cherished tradition in the St. Petersburg community, with many families returning year after year as children, and later as parents, still taking part in the program. What began decades ago as a simple seasonal offering has grown into a rite of passage for young artists, where creativity is nurtured across decades. Countless campers have taken their first steps in painting, ceramics, and glass at the art center, building not only artistic skills but lasting memories and connections. This enduring legacy reflects the Morean’s deep commitment to arts education and its role in shaping generations of creative thinkers.
“We’ve created a relaxed, encouraging environment where young artists can be themselves, try new things, and discover what they’re capable of,” said Lori Vinesett, the director of education. “Camp is about more than making art! It’s about building confidence, exploring creativity without pressure, and forming friendships. Kids leave camp feeling proud, inspired, and excited about who they are and what they can create.”
This summer’s weekly themes include Prehistoric Patterns, Stone-Age Storytelling, Magical Middle Ages, Modern Marvels, Here and Now, iArt, Cosmic Curiosity, Futuristic Fantasy Art.
