After concerns over the loss of business and meetings with the city, the Market District in northeast Tallahassee has finally opened, getting done in record time.
In a Facebook post, the district shared the news that residents can now travel along Maclay Commerce Drive from the roundabout all the way to Thomasville Road, going both east and westbound.
The completion of the project marks the end of a period of worrying for local business owners who were bothered that the project was initially slated to take an entire year. The good news: It later placed on the fast track by the city.

The construction is part of the 30-acre Market District Park, which will include pickleball courts, green space, a playground, a water play area for kids and the possibility to serve as a premier birthday destination. Construction started in January 2025 and was originally planned to last two years.
At their meeting on Feb. 18, city commissioners prompted city staff to urge the project contractor to begin work on March 1 on a roundabout at the intersection of Maclay Boulevard and Maclay Commerce Drive.
There are still some finishing touches being made to the roundabout: “While some work will be ongoing – such as landscaping, decorative pavers and the final asphalt layer – the public has driving access,” a statement from the District says.
Maclay Boulevard, however, remains closed from Maclay Commerce Drive to Mosswood Chase for the time being, but is expected to open in late summer.
