TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Florida Capital Bureau) – After a 1,500-mile trek across the entire state, the nonprofit organization, Lauren’s Kids, has made its second-to-last stop in Tallahassee.
On Thursday, former Florida Senator Lauren Book walked with and spoke with students at Gilchrist Elementary School in the capital city.
At the presentation, she taught the children how to identify safe adults in their lives and how to respond to situations that make them uncomfortable.

Book said that it is essential for students to learn these skills.
“Children have an idea of who can help them, but the reality is, 90% of the time, children are abused by someone they trust. So gone are the days of stranger danger; we know better, we do better. We want to teach children how to advocate for themselves, how to get help, how to identify red flags and how to access help until they get heard and helped,” she explained.
The walk corresponds with National Sexual Assault Awareness Month and National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
It will end Friday with one last stop at the Florida Capitol and a block party nearby.
