Troopers said there were multiple warning signs, traffic cones, and law enforcement vehicles with emergency lights alerting drivers of lane closures on I-275.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A Lithia man is facing multiple charges after crashing into a Florida Road Ranger stopped on I-275, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
It happened at 11:40 p.m. Wednesday on I-275, north of 4th Street N, in St. Pete.
Troopers say a 32-year-old man was driving his Honda Accord northbound on I-275 while an FDOT Road Ranger Ford F600 truck, operated by a 52-year-old Plant City man, was stopped in traffic in the inside lane.
The remaining three lanes of I-275 were closed for construction, with cones directing all northbound traffic to the inside lane.
“Advanced warning signs and arrow boards were also in place to alert approaching motorists of the lane closure,” FHP wrote.
Troopers add that multiple law enforcement vehicles were positioned with their emergency lights activated to provide additional warning for approaching drivers.
The driver failed to see the stopped car and crashed into the back of it, FHP said.
The 52-year-old Road Ranger operator was hospitalized with minor injuries. The driver, identified as Cedrick Brown, was arrested and charged with DUI, refusal to submit, driving with a suspended license and an active felony warrant.
