TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A Tallahassee man is behind bars in connection with a shooting that happened near Fred George Road and Connector Drive on Wednesday, according to the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.
D’Ysious Simmons is facing an attempted first-degree murder charge and possession of a machine gun in connection to the incident, LCSO says.

According to deputies, the shooting unfolded at 11:49 a.m. after the victim reported “being followed by another vehicle and shot at.”
The victim was not hurt, but their car was riddled with bullets, according to detectives.
The incident prompted roadway closures as deputies investigated at the scene.

After the investigation, LCSO determined Simmons was the suspected shooter. Law enforcement says they found the car he was allegedly driving during the shooting at an apartment complex on South Magnolia Drive.
“During the search, detectives recovered a firearm that had been illegally modified to function as an automatic weapon,” LCSO said in a press release.
The sheriff’s office says the shooting was an “isolated incident” and is still being investigated.
“This case is a clear example of the dangerous consequences when disputes escalate to gun violence,” LCSO Sheriff Walter McNeil said.
