HOBE SOUND, Fla. (CBS12) — A Martin County Sheriff’s Office helicopter crew spotted two people near a cul-de-sac in Hobe Sound firing a rifle in the dark, leading to their arrests, according to the sheriff’s office.
In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s office said its Air One unit was patrolling overhead when it saw 26-year-old Dominic Altringer and 38-year-old Hope Cruz get out of a car and begin shooting.
“Just because you park in the dark, doesn’t mean the eyes in the sky can’t see you,” the agency wrote in the post, describing the incident as “Eyes in the Sky, Cuffs on the Ground.”
The sheriff’s office said Air One watched as Altringer fired multiple rounds with Cruz standing nearby. Deputies on the ground were then directed to the area and took both into custody.
According to the sheriff’s office, Cruz — who deputies identified as a convicted felon — was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Altringer was charged with discharging a firearm in public.
The agency also released aerial video that appears to show thermal footage of a vehicle parked near a turnaround, two people outside the car and deputies later converging on the scene.
