Robert Burchetta, who lives in the community, arrived at the scene after seeing posts about the incident on social media. He lives down the road and runs a business nearby.
“I see all the caution tape out there, all the cops out front… and then, of course, all the cops in the back there too,” Burchetta said.
Deputies are investigating a scene in a North Fort Myers neighborhood.
Burchetta said he wanted to check if anyone had been captured yet. “I saw it on Facebook… wanted to see if the guy was captured yet, worried about being down there if he might be at large still,” he said.
He described the area as quiet, with little activity beyond semi trucks and trailers. “Just semi trucks and trailers… that’s pretty much it… other than that, no, not really any traffic,” Burchetta said.
Burchetta said nothing like this has happened in the area before.
The sheriff’s office has not released information about the victim’s identity, the cause of death or whether anyone is in custody.
