October 29, 2025 – JoAnn Urofsky, general manager of WUSF-FM for 22 years, will retire effective Jan. 5. She became station manager of the radio station in 1994, and general manager in 2002. Urofsky oversaw the acquisition and launch of WSMR, the state’s only 24-7 classical music station. WUSF 89.7 then shifted its midday programming to local and national news coverage throughout the day. In 2022, the popular “All Night Jazz” was (controversially) moved to online-only, and WUSF became a 24-7 news talk station. The University of South Florida holds WUSF’s broadcast licenses; the television division was sold off in 2017.
