The deadline to have an address listed as participating in the upcoming citywide yard sale is May 8, according to its organizer.
The citywide event is planned for May 22-24.
Eren White-Williams, a former alderwoman who oversees the event, started the yard sale when she first was elected to Jacksonville City Council. After her resignation in April, sh remained as organizer for the event.
“Different areas of all the town who want to have a yard sale come together on a specific weekend — mine’s always been Memorial Day weekend because that’s pretty much the unofficial start of summer when school is getting out,” White-Williams said. “It’s three days. Not everybody does it all three days. Some do, but it’s always been a great turnout, and it gives a lot of revenue to gas stations, stores, all that, for people visiting.”
There were about 50 people signed up for the event so far, White-Williams said earlier this week.
To participate, call or text 217-720-1638 with your name and address. Addresses will be published in the participants listing. Names will not.
“I noticed other towns smaller than Jacksonville were having citywide yard sales and I’m like, ‘why are we not doing this?’ Somebody’s junk might be someone else’s treasure,” she said.
