May 1, 2026 – Boaters for Turtles, a St. Petersburg-based community initiative, is working with local partners to encourage boaters to slow down in voluntary sea turtle protection zones during nesting season (May-August). A 2025 Florida State University-led study found that one in four sea turtles found dead or injured in Florida waters were struck by boats, with 98% of those collisions fatal.
