ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — An open house was hosted by the City of St. Pete Thursday at the Coliseum for residents and community members to learn more about potential renovations to the Historic Gas Plant District.
The 86-acre plot of land, which borders Tropicana Field, has been subject to years of debate and planning, with multiple developers pitching projects.

“We are looking for jobs, and for affordable workforce housing alongside it’s inclusive economic opportunity. It’s honoring those promises that were made to the Historic Gas Plant community some 40 years ago,” said St. Pete Mayor Ken Welch.
All four companies that have been selected as finalists spoke to hundreds of people in attendance and set up booths to engage community members with renderings, blueprints, and plans for their individual projects. The proposals vary in specific details and goals for the community, but each is in the billion-dollar-range.
No decision has been made on which plan will be pursued. Thursday’s meeting was strictly for community engagement.
