Bomb threat sparks evacuations, searches and heavy police presence in Port St. Lucie

THE DRIVER CHARGED WITH KILLING THREE PALM BEACH COUNTY DEPUTIES JUST MADE HER FIRST COURT APPEARANCE. AND THE ARREST REPORT WAS ALSO JUST RELEASED. DEPUTY BUTCH WALLER CORPORAL LUIS PAEZ, DEPUTY DAN DIAZ DIED IN THE LINE OF DUTY AFTER BEING STRUCK ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD ON SOUTHERN BOULEVARD. IT IS A STORY THAT SHOOK OUR COMMUNITY IN 2024. JOLIE RODRIGUEZ JOINS US LIVE FROM OUTSIDE THE PALM BEACH COUNTY JAIL, WITH MORE ON WHAT HAPPENED IN COURT AND WHAT DEPUTIES SAY HAPPENED THE MORNING OF THAT ACCIDENT. JOLEEN. YEAH, THAT’S RIGHT. TIFFANY. WE WERE IN THAT COURTROOM AND SOME OF THE VICTIMS FAMILIES WERE ACTUALLY PRESENT. WE GOT TO SPEAK WITH AN ATTORNEY REPRESENTING THE WALLER FAMILY. SAYS IT’S BEEN A LONG TIME COMING TO GET TO THIS POINT. THEY’RE REALLY JUST TRUSTING THE JUSTICE SYSTEM HERE. 32 YEAR OLD CORRINE BLUE APPEARED BEFORE A JUDGE FOR THE FIRST TIME ON FRIDAY, CHARGED IN A CRASH THAT KILLED THREE PALM BEACH COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES. BLUE FACES THREE COUNTS OF VEHICULAR HOMICIDE. INVESTIGATORS SAY CORPORAL LUIS PAEZ DEPUTY DAN DIAZ AND DEPUTY BUTCH WALLER WERE STOPPED ON THE SIDE OF SOUTHERN BOULEVARD WHEN THEY WERE HIT BY BLUE’S VEHICLE, A NEW REPORT SAYS. BLUE HAD JUST FINISHED AN OVERNIGHT NURSING SHIFT AND HAD BEEN AWAKE FOR 18 OF THE PREVIOUS 24 HOURS. INVESTIGATORS SAY SHE WAS SPEEDING, REACHING UP TO 86MPH BEFORE SWERVING ONTO THE SHOULDER. IN COURT, THE DEFENSE ASKED THE JUDGE TO LOWER BLUE’S BOND TO $75,000 PER COUNT, SAYING SHE IS A MOTHER. A LONGTIME PALM BEACH COUNTY RESIDENT AND HAS NO PRIOR TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS. THE JUDGE SET BOND AT $250,000 PER COUNT AND ORDERED BLUE TO REMAIN UNDER HOUSE ARREST. SHE ALSO COULD NOT TRAVEL OR DRIVE OUTSIDE OF PALM BEACH COUNTY AND MUST SURRENDER HER PASSPORT. AN ATTORNEY FOR DEPUTY WALLER’S FAMILY SAYS WHILE THIS PROCESS TO GET TO THIS POINT HAS BEEN FRUSTRATING, THEY UNDERSTAND THESE INVESTIGATIONS TAKE TIME. WE REALLY DO APPRECIATE THE CITY ATTORNEY’S OFFICE AND THE FLORIDA HIGHWAY PATROL FOR EVERYTHING THEY’VE DONE TO BRING IT TO THIS POINT, AND WE DO TRUST THE COURT SYSTEM AND BELIEVE IN THE COURT SYSTEM AND BELIEVE THAT JUSTICE WILL BE SERVED. IN THE END. PALM BEACH COUNTY SHERIFF RIC BRADSHAW RELEASED A STATEMENT ON THIS ARREST, SAYING, IN PART, WHILE NO LEGAL OUTCOME CAN EVER REPLACE THE LIVES LOST OR EASE THE PAIN FELT BY THEIR FAMILIES, LOVED ONES AND OUR AGENCY, WE REMAIN COMMITTED TO SEEING THIS CASE THROUGH THE JUSTICE SYSTEM. NOW, OF COURSE, NOW BLUE WILL REMAIN UNDER HOUSE ARREST AND HAVE TO FOLLOW THOSE STRICT TRAVEL GUIDELINES AROUND PALM BEACH COUNTY, AS WELL AS SURRENDER HER PASSPORT. AS WE MENTIONED. The threat was called into the main police station and indicated that a bomb was in the area of SW Darwin Blvd. PSLPD officers responded and followed standard operating procedures. All remaining students and staff in the area were safely evacuated, and a general assembly had already been dismissed prior to the threat. Officers and K-9 units are conducting a thorough search of the area. As of now, no suspicious devices have been located, police said.“There is no confirmed threat at this time; however, we are taking this matter very seriously and will continue to follow all appropriate procedures to ensure the safety of our community,” the Port St. Lucie Police Department said. The Port St. Lucie Police Department is investigating a bomb threat received this afternoon that triggered a code yellow alert at Treasure Coast High School.
The threat was called into the main police station and indicated that a bomb was in the area of SW Darwin Blvd. PSLPD officers responded and followed standard operating procedures. All remaining students and staff in the area were safely evacuated, and a general assembly had already been dismissed prior to the threat.
Officers and K-9 units are conducting a thorough search of the area. As of now, no suspicious devices have been located, police said.
