TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The newest graduating classes of Rattlers and Noles are receiving their hard-earned diplomas this weekend.
Thousands of Florida State University students will cross the stage in numerous commencement ceremonies scheduled throughout the weekend.
The university says it will award 8,923 degrees, including 6,732 bachelor’s degrees, 1,523 master’s and specialist degrees, 261 doctoral degrees, 140 Juris Doctor degrees, 140 Juris Master’s degrees and nine LL.M. degrees. About 7,190 graduates are expected to participate in the ceremonies.
Doctoral degrees were awarded on Friday morning. Two more ceremonies are scheduled for Friday afternoon and evening, and three ceremonies are set throughout the day on Saturday.
The keynote speakers include alumna Sara Blakely, philanthropist and founder of Spanx and Sneex, Lt. Gen. Sean M. Farrell, deputy commanding general of U.S. Special Operations Command at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, and the Honorable Daniel Perez, speaker of the Florida House of Representatives.
On the Highest of Seven Hills, spring commencement ceremonies kicked off on Friday at the Al Lawson Center. Ceremonies are also scheduled for 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday.
About 1,500 Rattlers will cross the stage during the spring ceremonies. FAMU will also livestream the ceremonies, which can be found on their YouTube channel here.
The commencement keynote speaker on Friday is Thasunda Brown Duckett, the president and CEO of TIAA, and Saturday’s commencement speaker is Omar Goff, an end-to-end commercial leader at Head & Shoulders.
Tallahassee State College held its spring commencement ceremony on Thursday at the Tucker Center. TSC awarded diplomas to 1,882 graduates.
