About 16 students enjoyed a full day with the Village of Key Biscayne last week as part of Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.
The visitors learned about the inner workings of village government, explored the police department’s fleet of cruisers and motorcycles, and visited the island’s fire department, where they got an up-close look at a fire truck and took part in a “dress like a firefighter” challenge.
Students also spent time shadowing their parents or relatives in their workplaces and toured the community center and Village Green. The day wrapped up with a build-your-own ice cream sundae activity.
The event was organized by Village Chief of Staff Jennifer L. Rodero.
“It was truly inspiring to welcome the next generation into our workplace and give them a behind-the-scenes look at how local government serves our community every day,” Rodero said.
