ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — The St. Petersburg Police Department said one of its officers was involved in a crash on Friday evening after failing to yield to oncoming traffic.
The crash happened at around 8:30 p.m. on May 1.
SPPD said the officer, in a marked police cruiser, was heading west on 54th Avenue North when he attempted to make a left turn onto 16th Street North.
He failed to yield to a 29-year-old St. Pete man on a Yamaha motorcycle, who then crashed into the front passenger side of the cruiser.
The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet and was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
The officer was hospitalized with minor injuries.
