PORT ST. LUCIE – Two people are in custody and Port St. Lucie Police are searching for a third suspect involved in the shooting of two men in a car parked near Aspen Dental in the 1600 block of Northwest St. Lucie Boulevard on May 2.
Police Chief Leo Niemczyk announced the arrests of the two suspects and said that the search continues for a third at a press conference at Port St. Lucie Police Department on May 3.
Police responded to the shopping center at about 6:36 p.m., and found two men, later identified as Antoine Myers and Jermonti Johnson, both 19, from Georgia, each suffering from gunshot wounds, in a white Tesla.
Myers, who was shot in the head, is in grave condition at a local hospital and the outlook is not good, Niemczyk said. Johnson is expected to recover from a gunshot wound he sustained to the abdomen, Niemcyzk said.
Police arrested Martravious Aaron Blue Jr., 19, of Fort Pierce and charged him with attempted second-degree murder, robbery with a firearm, and grand theft. Blue has a prior criminal history that includes burglary, Niemczyk said.
Also arrested was Sharlett Nylay Key, 18, of Port St. Lucie, charged with robbery with a firearm, obstruction of justice, and accessory after the fact for attempted murder. Key has no prior criminal history, Niemczyk said.
Key is believed to be the driver of a gold Chevrolet Cruze in which, she, Blue and another suspect left the scene of the crime at about 6:30 p.m., May 2, Niemczyk said.
The third suspect — Norrien Morris Casminski, 18 of Fort Pierce — is wanted for attempted second-degree murder, robbery with a firearm, and grand theft. Casminski has a prior criminal history that includes burglary, grand theft, and violation of probation, Niemczyk said.
Casminski, who was still at large as of May 3 and being sought by police and the U.S. Marshal’s Office, may still have the firearm with him and, as a result, is considered to be potentially dangerous, Niemcyzk said.
“I’m pretty sure (the Marshals Office) will have him in custody in no time,” Niemczyk said.
The incident started as a business transaction at a Walmart in Fort Pierce, after Myers and Johnson called the others on a cell phone and wanted the suspects to buy and activate phones for them, Niemczyk said.
The victims were “out there trying to obtain this cell phone equipment for less than ethical reasons. These are not upstanding citizens. and it’s unfortunate that their business brought them to Port St. Lucie,” Niemczyk said.
The suspects, after meeting up with the victims and driving them to Port St. Lucie, decided that they didn’t want to get involved and stole money and phones from the victims before they were shot, Niemczyk said.
The suspects then left the scene in the gold Chevy Cruze, he said.
Working throughout the night, officers were able to track the Cruze to the registered owner’s home, obtained search warrants and took Key and Blue in custody, Niemczyk said.
The department had 16-18 officers searching, with another six to 12 officers using drone technology to track the suspects, Niemczyk said.
Niemcyzk emphasized at the press conference that this was an isolated incident and that the suspects “weren’t looking to commit crime against random innocent people,” Niemczyk said.
