ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — Seniors who live in the Paradise Care Cottages Assisted Living Facility in Port St. Lucie are being told to pack up their things and find a new place to live in a matter of weeks.
In a letter sent to residents and obtained by CBS12, Meir Cosiol, the facility’s financial officer, wrote that the facility will cease operations on August 5, marking the end of 25 years of service to the senior community.
“Our residents and their families will need to make arrangements to move out before August 5th. We will do everything we can to assist you in finding placement and arranging the move,” Cosiol wrote.
That letter was sent on Thursday, June 26. Leaving the residents frustrated, now having under 45 days to find new housing.
The building will be repurposed into a drug rehabilitation center. The community is now fighting back and has set up a peaceful protest for Wednesday night, July 2.

The flyer for the event expresses concern over the location’s safety if a drug rehab center were to go here.
The facility is located at 2277 SE Lennard Rd, Port Saint Lucie, FL 34952. This is across from a boys & girls club, near a preschool, and surrounded by family neighborhoods.
Organizers say they support recovery, but not at the expense of our children’s and seniors’ safety.
That protest will start on the sidewalk of Paradise Care Cottages at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
CBS12 will have a reporter covering it and will update this article as we learn more.
