Broward County, FL – A vehicle crash into a canal in Broward County led to a rapid rescue effort as emergency crews worked to save a driver trapped in the water.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred in Pompano Beach near South Palm Aire Drive.
Authorities said a woman drove through a fence and into a canal located near a commercial area.
The reason for the crash has not been determined.
Deputies, along with fire rescue personnel and an off duty firefighter, responded quickly and entered the water to reach the vehicle.
Officials said responders broke a window to gain access and were able to remove the driver before the car became fully submerged.
The woman was the only occupant of the vehicle and was not reported to have sustained serious injuries.
Emergency crews evaluated her at the scene following the rescue.
Officials noted the vehicle sank shortly after she was pulled to safety.
Authorities confirmed that one deputy sustained minor injuries during the rescue operation.
A dive team was later called to assist with recovering the vehicle from the canal.
Witnesses in the area reported seeing the vehicle enter the water and responders moving quickly to assist.
The incident drew attention due to the speed of the rescue and the close proximity to nearby businesses and residences.
