Cape Coral eases up on lawn watering restrictions, allowing residents to water once a week

Watering restrictions are being loosened for northeast Cape Coral residents who utilize private wells for domestic and landscape irrigation.The City of Cape Coral said residents who were under an irrigation ban will now be allowed to water their lawns once per week, as water levels in the Mid-Hawthorn Aquifer have increased.According to city officials, the South Florida Water Management District lifted the Phase IV water restrictions, which called for zero irrigation days, and moved the area into Phase II, which allows one irrigation day per week.The city also said its Utilities Extension Project and the transition of existing wells off the Mid-Hawthorn Aquifer have helped the aquifer experience a level of recovery that hasn’t been seen in years.
