WASHINGTON (TNND) — Spirit Airlines announced that most of its customers have been refunded with flight tickets after the airline announced it was closing down.
The airline is still processing a “small percentage” of refunds for customers, sources from Spirit told CBS News.
The airline said refunds would be automatically processed for flights that were purchased with a credit card or a debit card.
Spirit Airlines announced over the weekend that it would be ceasing operations after the company failed to get a $500 million federal bailout.
“It is with great disappointment that on May 2, 2026, Spirit Airlines started an orderly wind-down of our operations, effective immediately,” Spirit Airlines posted in a statement. “To our Guests: all flights have been cancelled, and customer service is no longer available. We are proud of the impact of our ultra-low-cost model on the industry over the last 34 years and had hoped to serve our Guests for many years to come.”
The Trump administration was considering bailing out Spirit to keep the airline from going under, but a deal wasn’t reached.
