During the 2026 State of the City address this morning, Tampa Mayor Jane Castor unveiled many plans focused on infrastructure and neighborhood investment.
Mayor Castor and city officials cut the ribbon of the Fair Oaks Recreation Complex. The mayor says this marks the beginning of a new chapter for the city.
“This is what it looks like when we invest in what matters most, but we’re not done,” said Mayor Castor. “We’re going to keep investing, keep building, keep moving forward because this isn’t about one moment, it’s about building something that lasts.”
As part of her future plans, a new facility is being built to remove forever chemicals from Tampa’s water.
Construction on the TECO Line Streetcar will begin soon, extending it to Tampa Heights and riverwalk will continue to expand to the west side of the river.
There are numerous plans in the works to expand affordable housing, sustain public safety and continue investing in the community. Mayor Castor says she hopes to strengthen the foundation of Tampa and improve it for future generations.
“A city doesn’t become strong by accident,” said Mayor Castor. “It becomes strong because people invest in it, their time, their work, and their lives. And our responsibility is to meet that investment.”
