TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Florida A&M University is mourning the loss of former interim president Dr. Castell Vaughn Bryant.
FAMU shared a statement from current president Marva Johnson on social media Monday, describing Bryant as “a distinguished alumna, trailblazing leader and the University’s first woman to serve as interim president.”
Bryant was appointed to interim presidents in 2005 and served two years. “Her leadership reflected a deep and abiding commitment to the University’s mission, its students, and its enduring legacy of excellence,” Johnson wrote.

She also served in leadership roles at Miami-Dade College, according to FAMU.
“On behalf of the Florida A&M University community, we extend our deepest condolences to Dr. Bryant’s family, friends, colleagues, and all who were impacted by her life and service,” Johnson wrote. “We honor her memory with gratitude and will continue to build upon the foundation she helped strengthen.”
The statement also highlighted Bryant’s work in paving the way for future generations of women leaders across higher education.
