THE SEARCH CONTINUES FOR A SUSPECT WHO PORT SAINT LUCIE BELIEVE SHOT 219 YEAR OLDS AT A SHOPPING CENTER. WE’VE NOW LEARNED ONE OF THOSE VICTIMS HAS DIED. GOOD EVENING. PORT SAINT LUCIE POLICE TURNED THE SEARCH OVER TO U.S. MARSHALS, AND THEY’RE DOING EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO FIND THE SUSPECT, ESPECIALLY SINCE ONE OF THE VICTIMS DIED TODAY IN THE HOSPITAL. CHIEF NEMZEK TELLS ME ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY PLAYED A HUGE ROLE IN THIS INVESTIGATION. CHIEF NEMZEK SAYS THE DEPARTMENT HAS BEEN USING ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY LIKE DRONES SINCE 2018 TO HELP SOLVE CASES LIKE THESE AT A MUCH FASTER PACE. DRONES WERE USED ON EACH OF THE SCENES THAT WE OPERATED. WE USED THEM TO ONE DOCUMENT EVERYTHING FROM THE AIR. SO EVERYTHING IS, YOU KNOW, THE POSITION AND LOCATION WHERE THEY ARE GETS RECORDED AND CODIFIED. IT ALSO ALLOWS US TO OBSERVE FOR OFFICER SAFETY REASONS WHEN WE’RE WORKING ON A PARTICULAR SCENE. PORT SAINT LUCIE POLICE DEPARTMENT IS WORKING TO DEVELOP A FIRST RESPONDER DRONE PROGRAM WHILE BUILDING A REAL TIME INTELLIGENCE CENTER IS GOING TO LOOP IN OUR LICENSE PLATE READERS. OUR CAMERAS THROUGHOUT THE CITY. SO LEVERAGING TECHNOLOGY TO KEEP THE COMMUNITY SAFE IS AT THE CORE OF WHAT WE DO IS INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT. AS YOU CAN SEE, IT’S VERY ADVANTAGEOUS. IT HELPED US TO SOLVE THIS INCIDENT OVERNIGHT, ESSENTIALLY, AND TAKE TWO INTO CUSTODY AND HAVE THE THIRD IDENTIFIED. AND WE HAVE AN ARREST WARRANT FOR THAT INDIVIDUAL. INVESTIGATORS WORKED THROUGH THE NIGHT INTO SUNDAY AFTERNOON TO FIND THE SUSPECTS. THE DEPARTMENT DEPLOYED OVER A DOZEN OFFICERS FROM SWAT K-9 UNITS, PLUS ADDITIONAL PERSONNEL. ADDITIONALLY, WE HAD PROBABLY ANOTHER 6 TO 12 OFFICERS INVOLVED BETWEEN THE DRONE. THEN WE HAD THE SWAT TEAM INVOLVED BECAUSE THEY ACTUALLY EXECUTED SEARCH WARRANTS FOR THE INVESTIGATORS. SO A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF RESOURCES WERE DEPLOYED AS A U.S. MARSHALS CONTINUE TO SEARCH FOR THAT THIRD SUSPECT. OFFICIALS DO BELIEVE HE IS ARMED AND DANGEROUS. A man accused of shooting two 19-year-olds from Georgia is in law enforcement custody.
The Port St. Lucie Police Department announced Tuesday afternoon that 18-year-old Norrien Casminski from Fort Pierce, was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service.
