The pup was receiving care after 33-year-old Imania Davis broke his front left leg when she threw him twice and kicked him away from her, authorities say.

TAMPA, Fla. — The 1-year-old Maltese that was seen getting thrown and kicked on video in Hillsborough County has passed away.

Officials with the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center say the dog died during surgery Tuesday.

The pup was receiving care after 33-year-old Imania Davis broke his front left leg when she threw him twice and kicked the animal away from her, authorities say.

“Animal cruelty has no place in our community, and we remain committed to seeking justice for this dog,” the Pet Resource Center said in a statement.

Real Time Crime Center cameras captured video from the night of Thursday, April 30, showing Davis throwing the stray Maltese “not once, but twice” on an asphalt surface in the area of 11th Street and East 127th Avenue.

After the first throw, Davis is seen kicking the dog when he tries running back to her.

Following the kick, Davis picks the dog up and walks with him while grabbing the animal by the neck and then throwing him again, based on the video.

The second throw broke the dog’s front left leg, Sheriff Chad Chronister said.

Davis is charged with six counts of aggravated animal cruelty. She is being held in the Hillsborough County Jail on a $75,000 bond.

Chronister explained that Davis has previously been arrested for battery.
