Two people were arrested after Cape Coral police say they were caught street racing on Nicholas Parkway and Country Club Boulevard.According to the Cape Coral Police Department, on Tuesday night officers were conducting speed enforcement on Nicholas Parkway when they saw a group of cars, two Ford Mustangs, a silver Infiniti G35 and a dark-colored pickup truck, driving at a higher rate of speed than normal. Officers say radar confirmed they were going 68 mph in a 35 mph zone.The cars were then seen revving at a red light and then taking off, ultimately going at speeds of up to 90 mph.A short time later, officers say, the group stopped at another red light near the intersection of Nicholas Parkway and Country Club Boulevard, where one of the Mustangs and the Infiniti made U-turns before continuing to drive recklessly in the area.Officers conducted a traffic stop on the Infiniti. The driver, identified as Joaquin Sierra Jr., 35, reportedly refused commands to get out of the vehicle and resisted being placed in handcuffs when he was detained.He was charged with racing on a highway, dangerous excessive speeding and resisting an officer without violence.During the same incident, one of the Mustangs was stopped, and the driver admitted to speeding with the other vehicles, officers say.
