Margate’s public schools earned recognition at the 2026
Broward County Public Schools Community Involvement Awards, where the city’s
education community was represented through municipal partnership, STEM-focused
business support, and volunteer service. The ceremony took place on April
29th and honored the people, businesses, and civic partners who supported
students across Broward County.

Margate Middle School received one of the strongest local
honors through its partnership with The Crockett Foundation, which was named
the School-Based Partner of the Year Award winner at the middle school level.
The Foundation provided sustained support through its Digital Explorers
Afterschool Program, which delivered approximately $100,000 in annual in-kind
services. That investment gave students access to STEM and coding instruction
tied to future academic and career pathways.

The Crockett Foundation’s work mattered because it helped
students connect classroom skills to real-world possibilities. Through the
Digital Explorers Afterschool Program, students applied technology concepts in
practical settings and gained exposure to how coding and STEM skills are used
in professional fields. At the middle school level, that kind of experience can
shape how students view college, work and their own potential before they reach
high school.

The partnership also expanded students’ view of life
after middle school through college and workplace experiences. Margate Middle
students took part in college tours to institutions such as Stanford University
and visited companies including Uber and Salesforce. Those experiences gave
students a closer look at higher education and technology-driven careers. For
many students, seeing those campuses and workplaces helped make future goals
feel more concrete.

The district’s School-Based Partner of the Year category
recognized organizations that gave schools financial resources, materials, time,
and expertise in support of quality education. Broward County Public Schools
reviewed nominees based on commitment, support for school improvement, student
achievement, and the use of resources to create student experiences. The
Crockett Foundation’s selection with Margate Middle School fit that standard
because its support combined direct instruction, career exposure, and sustained
investment.

Liberty Elementary School brought Margate into the
countywide recognition through the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Awards.
Davinia Aldama and Gloria Pineda were named adult volunteer nominees, and
Angelica Dubanewicz was named a senior volunteer nominee. Their nominations
reflected the service that helped elementary schools run events, support
classrooms, and maintain connections with families. At Liberty Elementary, the
recognition showed how individual volunteers contributed to the school’s daily
culture.

Aldama and Pineda represented the adult volunteers whose
work often stayed close to the daily needs of students and teachers. Volunteer
support at the elementary level can shape how families experience a campus
because students and parents often remember the people who helped make school
events and routines feel welcoming.

Dubanewicz’s senior volunteer nomination added an
intergenerational dimension to Liberty Elementary’s recognition. Senior
volunteers can bring patience, consistency, and community memory to a school.
Their presence also shows students that service remains valuable across a
lifetime. Her nomination placed that form of service within Margate’s larger
education story.

The City of Margate was recognized as a municipal partner
nominee. Margate Middle School gained countywide attention through an
award-winning partnership with The Crockett Foundation. Liberty Elementary
School was represented by adult and senior volunteer nominees. Together, those
honors showed that local school success depended on institutions and
individuals working in different ways toward student support.

Margate’s recognition at the ceremony offered a broader
reminder about how schools succeed. Teachers and administrators lead the
academic work, and community partners help extend what schools can offer. In
Margate, that support came through city involvement, career-connected
programming, and volunteer service. The 2026 awards gave those efforts a public
