Port St. Lucie is undergoing several major road construction projects to address traffic congestion as the city’s population continues to grow. The Port St. Lucie Boulevard Widening project is currently in its third phase, expanding the road from Paar Drive to Alcantara Boulevard from two lanes to four. Previous segments between Alcantara and Gatlin Boulevard faced delays due to hurricanes but were officially completed last year. Road closures for drainage and utility work are keeping this phase on schedule but are slowing down drivers. You can only plan so much, you give it some room, but you definitely may get delays,” a local health professional said. FDOT has coordinated extensively with utility companies and the city to keep projects moving forward. According to the City of Port St. Lucie, other major traffic projects in Port St. Lucie include: The intersection of St. Lucie West Boulevard and Peacock Boulevard is being widened, with new turn lanes and a westbound lane for drivers to access I-95. This project is expected to be completed this year. Phase three of the Floresta Drive Improvement Project, enhancing the road between Crosstown Parkway and Prima Vista Boulevard, is underway and should be finished by 2028. Earlier phases included improvements at Port St. Lucie Boulevard and widening the Elkham Bridge. The Midway Road widening project from Jenkins Road to Selvitz Road, expanding it from two lanes to four, was initially slated for completion this summer but is now expected to finish early next year. The widening from Jenkins Road to Glades Cut Off Road is scheduled to begin next year. The Florida Turnpike Enterprise is in the design phase for an interchange at Midway Road and the turnpike, with construction expected to start next year. WPBF 25 also asked if there would be improvements in the near future to other intersections along Bayshore Boulevard, Becker Road, and Savona Boulevard, but did not get a response.The final segment of the Port St. Lucie Boulevard Widening project, from Paar Drive to Becker Road, is scheduled to begin in 2027.
