Beneficial rain is on the way for Tallahassee, the Big Bend and South Georgia

  • May 7, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Fires continue to burn across parts of Florida and Georgia due to very dry conditions that have persisted since September.

So beneficial rain is on the way as active weather patterns take over from the end of this week into your weekend.

This evening

A hot and humid afternoon with partly sunny skies. Some ongoing fires will have extra fuel today due to breezy conditions this afternoon and evening. If you have any outdoor plans for your Wednesday, temperatures will be in the 80s inland and 70s along the coast.

For those heading out on the boat to catch the sunset or fish, conditions look okay. South winds 5 to 15 knots, seas 1 foot or less.

Turning active on Thursday

Most of you will be able to get out the door tomorrow morning without running into rain or storms, but do grab the rain gear as storms and rain become more likely for MANY of us tomorrow.

Out the door, most locations will NOT be dealing with rain. But by the afternoon, scattered...Out the door, most locations will NOT be dealing with rain. But by the afternoon, scattered rain arrives.(WCTV)

However, if you live in South Georgia, I think there will be some showers and storms around as you are heading out the door.

Rain and storms will dive south throughout the late morning into the afternoon. The later the storms arrive, the stronger they will be. The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted the area under a level one, marginal risk of severe weather. This means an isolated storm may produce 60 mph winds or a brief tornado. The majority of the area will see rain and storms, and NOT severe weather.

Rain totals will be beneficial between 1 and 2 inches for the heart of the Big Bend. Those in south Georgia could see totals as high as 4 inches or more. Meanwhile, the southeast Big Bend will have much lower totals.

The highest rain totals will be for folks northwest. Most of the area will see 1 to 2 inches....The highest rain totals will be for folks northwest. Most of the area will see 1 to 2 inches. Lower amounts for the southeast Big Bend.(WCTV)

Several more rounds of rain and storms are expected on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Some models have Friday’s rain coverage even higher than tomorrow’s. I will keep an eye on the risk for a few stronger storms with each wave. Highs in the 80s and muggy through the weekend.

High temperatures will stay in the 80s for the next several days. Most afternoons will stay...High temperatures will stay in the 80s for the next several days. Most afternoons will stay above average.(WCTV)

Be ready for rain through Mother’s Day weekend. Drier weather returns on Tuesday.
