Miami (FL) football reloaded its roster to spark new national championship chatter for the Hurricanes. Head coach Mario Cristobal now reshuffled the coaching staff Wednesday. Including elevating popular assistant Will Harris and replacing Zac Etheridge.

Cristobal added a new cornerbacks coach in Terry Jefferson to succeed the latter. But the former Hurricanes player handed Harris a new promotion per Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.

“Miami is promoting Will Harris to secondary coach and defensive pass game coordinator, sources tell CBS Sports,” Zenitz posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.

The new role for Harris is huge, plus a reward for his contributions in this category.

“Was Miami’s safeties coach last season and helped the team finish fifth nationally in scoring defense,” Zenitz said. “Now, being promoted heading into Year No. 2 at Miami.”

Harris helped oversee the development of one breakout Miami star from 2025 Keionte Scott. The versatile Scott returned both of his interceptions for touchdowns while adding a blitz-happy element. Scott piled 13 tackles behind the line of scrimmage while tallying five sacks. He’ll stay in-state and suit up for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this fall after landing in the fourth round to them.

Jakobe Thomas is another who benefitted greatly from Harris, grabbing five interceptions to lead the safeties. Thomas will suit up for the Minnesota Vikings as a third round selection.

Etheridge rises as a significant coaching loss, though. He turned freshman Bryce Fitzgerald into a ball-hawk, grabbing six interceptions last season to lead Miami. Etheridge will join the first Mike LaFleur-led Arizona staff in the NFL.
