TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Chiles Timberwolves won the Class 5A state championship last year, and the ladies are well on the road to a repeat, and a win Wednesday night over Beachside would get them back to the state final four.
Tied a set apiece, a late rally by Chiles fell short in the third, with the Barracudas winning 25-23. In the fourth, a run of fifteen straight points locked in the 25-11 win for Chiles, forcing a decisive fifth set, a set the Timberwolves would win 15-9 to seal up their third straight trip to the Final Four.
“I think it says a lot about our program,” said head coach Kaitlin Jahn. “Even though we had tremendous seniors graduating, the group that’s been behind has always been paying attention and has always had the same goal and the same mindset to keep us at the top. It’s been fun to watch.”
“I just think this team doesn’t have any let up in it,” added senior Lindsay Smith. “I think all season we’ve pushed ourselves in practice, in games, we’ve just focused. Even when we’ve been challenged in games, like this game, there’s no let up. We’re confident in our play and we handle business like we know how to handle business.”
The 5A state semifinals are set for next Friday in Winter Haven. If they win, the state title game is Saturday.
