A man with a lengthy criminal record is being sought in a car burglary in South Miami that was caught on camera, police said.
The suspect, 48-year-old Walter Tyson Gervais, was described by South Miami Police as having an “extensive criminal past.”
The incident happened around 3 a.m. Tuesday at a parking garage at 5950 Southwest 74th Street when Gervais was caught on surveillance cameras trying to open the doors of two vehicles, police said.
He was eventually able to enter a vehicle and rummaged through it before opening the trunk and removing several items, police said.
Gervais fled with about $200 worth of property from the victim, officials said.
Miami-Dade court records showed Gervais was previously arrested numerous times on charges including battery, trespassing, burglary, drug possession, grand theft, and disorderly intoxication.
“He is a career criminal, has over 36 pages of criminal history involving violent crimes, car break-ins, house break-ins, robberies,” South Miami Police Sgt. Fernando Bosch said. “This is a very dangerous individual who we want to get off the streets.”
Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
