TAMPA, Fla. (WWSB/Gray News) – A dog that a Florida woman was accused of throwing and kicking has died, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office announced.
Imania Davis, 33, was arrested and charged with six counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.
Deputies said the Tampa woman was recorded on a security camera the night of April 30 picking up the small dog by the scruff of the neck and throwing him onto a road into a mobile home park. When the dog ran back to her, she allegedly kicked him.
“This dog was only seeking love and attention and affection,” Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a press conference.
According to deputies, Davis then threw the animal about 10 feet.
The dog initially survived, treated by a veterinarian for a broken leg, before ultimately succumbing to its injuries, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies confirmed the department was working with the attorney general’s office to see if any other charges would be applicable following the death of the dog.
