2 Tampa men found guilty of distributing fentanyl that killed USF student: DOJ

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA)— Two Tampa men were convicted of distributing fentanyl that killed a University of South Florida student.

A federal jury found Miguel Cintron, 38, and Darrius Gustafson, 22, guilty of conspiracy to distribute fentanyl that resulted in death, the Department of Justice announced.

According to evidence and testimony at trial, Cintron, Gustafson, David Chudhabuddhi, and Marquis Trant distributed a lethal amount of fentanyl to a USF student.

After the victim died, the four continued to distribute fentanyl to undercover deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the DOJ, all four were arrested on April 10, 2024, and a search warrant was executed at Cintron’s home, where they found more than seven kilograms of cocaine, fentanyl, and over $200,000.

Chudhabuddhi and Trant pleaded guilty previously and are scheduled to be sentenced on June 18, 2026.

Cintron and Gustafson face a minimum penalty of 20 years, up to life in prison. The sentencing date has not been set yet.
