POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A plane crashed in Polk County on Friday night, prompting a response from deputies, according to the sheriff’s office.
In a release, deputies said the crash was reported shortly after 8 p.m. west of Mulberry.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered that the pilot was uninjured and that he was the only person involved.

Per investigators, the aircraft — a one-seat, fixed-wing plane — had taken off from South Lakeland Airport in Mulberry.
“Soon after takeoff, the plane experienced engine trouble,” the release reads. “The pilot found a grassy area not far from the airport near SR-60 and County Line Road where he could land the plane.”
But after touching down and slowing to a stop, the plane flipped over, investigators added.
