ST. PETERSBURG — “Hundred Days,” based on the real love story of musical duo The Bengsons, opened on Oct. 22 and will run through Nov. 16 at the Raymond James Theater at American Stage, 163 Third St. N., St. Petersburg.

Written by The Bengsons and Sarah Gancher, this folk-punk musical explores the fragility of time and the infinite depth of love. It is a story about love at first sight…and everything that comes afterward.

Directed by Nick Sugar with music direction by Jason Tucker, “Hundred Days” is part memoir, part concert. The story centers on Abigail and Shaun Bengson, two indie musicians who fall for each other the instant they meet in a diner. Love at first sight is immediately followed by anxiety when Abigail recalls a dream she deems “prophetic:” that she would meet her soulmate in a diner, but only have a hundred days to spend together. What follows is a mission to cram an entire lifetime into 100 days, while learning to embrace life’s uncertainty along the way.

“Hundred Days” joins American Stage’s 2025-2026 mainstage season, which explores the courage it takes to seek community, the beauty of unexpected destinations, and the journey of finding your way home.

“Hundred Days” also marks the return of familiar faces to the American Stage, offering audiences a fresh opportunity to see beloved performers in new roles. After a standout performance in last season’s “Ring of Fire,” Mikhail Roberts returns as Shaun Bengson. Audiences will get to see him in a new light in this deeply personal story set in Astoria, New York, the very neighborhood where he and his wife live.

“I would love if the audience could walk away with the courage to pursue all of the love in their life, and to not fear rejection, not fear losing that love,” Roberts said.

Also returning is K Chinthana Sotakoun, who wowed audiences as Yitzhak in “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” and is now bringing their dynamic presence to the role of Abigail Bengson. The production also features a full, onstage band, blurring the lines between concert and theatre. With a powerhouse cast and live music driving the emotional core of the show, “Hundred Days” promises a theatrical experience that’s as intimate as it is electrifying.
