Tampa Police released body cam video of a ‘teen takeover’ at Curtis Hixon Park Friday night.
TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa Police say officers arrested 22 people between the ages of 12 and 21 Friday night after a large “teen takeover” gathering at Curtis Hixon Park in downtown Tampa.
Officers say the crowd started fighting and caused major disturbances in and around the park.
Tampa Police say they had to use patrol officers, bike units, and their helicopter to get the crowd under control.

The 22 suspects face numerous charges, including possession of narcotics, resisting without violence, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
Tampa Police say they also seized two guns and a vehicle during the incident.

“This type of reckless and criminal behavior will not be tolerated in our city,” said Chief Lee Bercaw. “What began as a large gathering quickly escalated into disorder and activity that placed others at risk. Parents need to know where their children are and who they are with. Unfortunately, the poor decisions made by these 22 individuals last night could have lasting consequences that follow them well into adulthood. The Tampa Police Department remains committed to being one of the safest major cities in the nation, and we will continue taking strong enforcement action against anyone who threatens the peace and safety of our community.”
Tampa Police say the “teen takeover” trend has become a growing concern across the country as summer approaches.
During spring break in March, 20 people were arrested during two separate teen takeovers in Brandon. You can read about those incidents here.
