MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Fifteen people were hospitalized Saturday afternoon after reports of a possible “boat explosion” near the Haulover Sandbar off Haulover Beach, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
Authorites said at 12:48 p.m., more than 25 MDFR units, including Fireboat 21 and Ocean Rescue teams, along with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers, responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, rescue crews said they found “multiple patients” and quickly requested additional resources.
They said the incident was upgraded to a “Level 2 Mass Casualty Incident” due to the number of people needing medical attention.
Authorities said all 15 individuals were transported to a nearby hospital. No additional details on their ages or conditions were immediately released.
The cause of the reported explosion remains under investigation at this time.
