TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Nearly 500 people learned lifesaving CPR skills Saturday during the 14th annual “Press the Chest” CPR event at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center.
Hosted by Leon County EMS, the event taught attendees how to perform hands-only CPR and use an AED. Participants of all ages attended, including children as young as 7 years old.
Leon County EMS Deputy Chief Sally Davis said bystanders play a vital role in emergencies before first responders arrive, so the more people in the community who are trained, the better.

“People bring their families, they bring their neighborhood groups, they bring their church groups and it’s just really, really nice to see that the community understands the importance of CPR,” Davis said.
The event also featured speakers, health vendors and survivor stories from people who experienced cardiac arrest.
Davis said each participant received a take-home kit to continue practicing CPR skills and help teach others in the community.
