MONTREAL — Substitutes Daniel Ríos and Dagur Thorhallsson scored stoppage-time goals, Thomas Gillier had four saves, and CF Montreal beat Orlando City 2-0 on Saturday in front of 14,044 fans at Stade Saputo.

Orlando beat Montreal 2-1 at home March 14 and was coming off a thrilling 4-3 upset of Inter Miami and Lionel Messi last week. The Lions rallied from a 3-0 deficit to claim the victory.

This time out, the Lions found the road trip bumpier. Martin Ojeda of Orlando, who had a hat trick against Miami, had just one shot on goal Saturday and two attempts total. Ojeda’s left-footed shot from outside the box was saved in the center of the goal by Gillier in the 71st minute.

Tyrese Spicer, who scored the winner against Miami, also managed just one shot on goal. His left-footed shot from the left side of the box missed to the left in the 56th minute.

Just after that, Orlando City had a great chance in the 57th minute. Iago Teodoro’s header off a cross by Ojeda from the center of the box was stopped by Gillier.

The Lions’ best opportunity in the first half came in the 29th minute. Griffin Dorsey’s left-footed shot after a pass from Justin Ellis was shut down by Gillier.

Montreal led in all major statistical categories. CFM had 53.8% possession, outshot Orlando 25-9 and had a 11-3 advantage in corner kicks. The Lions had four shots on goal while Montreal was on target with six of its shots.

Gillier had his third shutout this season.

Luca Petrasso drew a penalty, conceded by Orlando City’s Robin Jansson. Ríos converted from the spot in the fourth minute of injury time to open the scoring.

Icelandic midfielder Thorhallsson scored his first goal for Montreal (4-7-0, 12 points) to make it 2-0 in the eighth minute of stoppage time. The club acquired Thorhallsson from Orlando City on Dec. 10 in exchange for up to $625,000 in General Allocation Money.

Thorhallsson, 25, arrived in Orlando in January of 2023 and recorded eight goals and nine assists across all competitions for the Lions, making 70 starts in 116 appearances.

Maxime Crépeau had three saves for Orlando (3-8-1). The Lions remain at 10 points and are second from the bottom of the table in the Eastern Conference of MLS, ahead of Philadelphia. The Union will visit Inter&Co Stadium on Wednesday. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.
