Friends and family gathered Thursday night at the Boynton Beach Inlet to honor Lanessa Rodriguez-Vega, a 35-year-old woman who was shot and killed at her workplace in Fort Pierce last week.“She was very electric and happy, and everywhere she went, everybody was drawn to her,” said Nayomy Nomelin, Lanessa’s best friend. “She was like a beautiful butterfly. Everybody just wanted to talk to her, just be around her energy,” Nomelin said. Dozens of people attended the vigil to celebrate that beauty and energy. “Long live Lanessa. We love you, girl,” said Angela Gutierrez, a friend. Lanessa was working at the We Buy Gold and Silver shop in Fort Pierce when a man walked in and shot her. Police said the suspect has not explained his motive. Nomelin organized the vigil to honor her friend. “Because I love her. I want us to gather together just to pray for her and her spirit,” Nomelin said. Attendees brought flowers, lit candles, and displayed pictures of Lanessa. “I want us to light these candles, and when we light these candles, I want you guys to think of a beautiful memory that you had with her,” Nomelin said. “She’s my sister. She’s watching over us, all of us, each and every one of us,” said Megan Mathew, another friend. “She left us too soon.”“Unfortunately, God sometimes takes good ones first. It was tragic what happened. She did not deserve this,” said Gutierrez.
