OAKLEAF PLANTATION, Fla. — A person has died after an officer-involved shooting in Oakleaf Plantation Saturday evening, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Sheriff Michelle Cook says that at around 4 p.m., deputies responded to a Department of Children and Families investigation at a home on Pebble Stone Street. The nature of that initial investigation is currently unknown.

While on scene, the Cook says that deputies had begun “checking names” before discovering that an individual on scene had an out-of-state warrant.

After this discovery, Cook states that the same suspect had “armed themselves with two knives and became confrontational” in the backyard.

Cook says that the confrontation later continued in a neighbor’s yard after the suspect had knocked down a fence while still being armed. It was at that time that a single deputy had opened fire on the suspect, who died at the scene. No deputies are said to have been injured.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the State Attorney’s Office are currently investigating.
